Season’s Change
There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens… Ecclesiastes 3:1
Season’s change. The scent of fog-fresh air drew me into woods where cool raindrops painted autumn colors overnight, changing summer greens to yellows and golds. Chilly morning air misted the mountains as summer’s last flowers waved bright amid the changing trees. Damp earth began to reclaim falling leaves, the promise of nourishment for new life.
Within weeks, frost and snow will expose bare branches, brown and stark against the blue of sky and distant hills. As squirrels and rabbits hide from winter’s blustery days, the cycle of life continues on, faithful since the dawn of time. Eventually, snowy blasts make way for spring’s unveiling. Season’s changes never fail to point us to the one who set their motion in the beginning.
Swirling mist wrapped me like a blanket, hiding sun and distant peaks in a silent world. I breathed deep, and headed up the hill where sun peeked through, setting trees ablaze in fiery golds.
I love the graceful season’s change from one year to the next. God displays his glory in the abundance of summer greens, autumn’s palette, and winter whites. Like the changing seasons, I take comfort in knowing God’s circle includes a plan and purpose for me as well.
The rush of summer’s heat is past, yet I welcome autumn’s slower pace, the chance to see through eyes that recognize the patterns. A learner still, I now have the wisdom of approaching age and life seems simpler and more settled than when I was younger. “He made the moon to mark the seasons, and the sun knows when to go down.” (Psalm 104:19)
If age and change are frightful things, perhaps the wisdom of the seasons, God’s great calendar of time, can offer peace. Faithful, as time moves from summer to fall, winter to spring, he never fails in his perfect grace.
The one who set the sun in place and stars in motion knows each life’s span, the meaning of our days, and offers the hope of all eternity. He does not leave us without plan or purpose. For those who seek God, he sets our hearts ablaze with life that continues without end. The path he sets is straight. Seek it while you may. He never disappoints.
