Losing my way is something I dread, however, God has provided the answers to navigating life as safely as possible and dealing with the problems that come through His word. I’d love to hear about the times God’s word redirected you!

Losing My Way
Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.” Isaiah 30:21
Losing my way frightens me. Driving alone on a dark night was much more disturbing before the days of Google Maps on smartphones. Even in the daylight, trying to make an appointment on time and having difficulty finding the right address makes me nervous. I like to feel certain about where I’m going.
On a recent research trip alone, I not only used Google Maps, I had state maps to prevent losing my way among unfamiliar small towns. Holding that piece of paper in hand gave me confidence that I would find everywhere I wanted and make my final destination on time.
Many years ago, long before smartphones, my husband and I became lost in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. After driving much further than we thought was necessary, we stopped at a gas station to ask directions. The attendant informed us the road we sought was just over the next hill. Having information from someone familiar with the route gave us a sense of security.
Like driving a curvy, mountain road in the dark without landmarks, uncertainty regarding future events can make me fearful of losing my way. Whether it’s health, relationships, jobs, or whatever the issue, the human spirit needs direction. God offers instructions for every situation. The Bible is the Lord’s road map and instruction book for human life on this earth.
I can’t see God’s plan of direction when I focus on the problem rather than his word. Growing up in church, having read the Bible once, saying a prayer, or simply believing God exists isn’t enough. To handle every situation the way Jesus would requires daily time in prayer and Bible study. Seek the Lord, await his time and way to reveal the next step. God will not be rushed. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5, 6)
Unless God is behind the effort with clear leading and direction through his word and his impression on my heart through prayer, I might lose my way make things worse.
Seek the Lord. His directions succeed when human means fail and prevent me from losing my way.

Lovely post and reminder God will direct our paths when we lean upon Him. I’ve seen Proverbs 3:5-6 in action in my life time after time when I just had to wait upon God to know what to do or to be provided for. Blessings.
Thank you, Marilyn! Proverbs 3:5, 6 has been my favorite forever. It is true in every situation.
I have felt this way a lot lately. Thank you for this poignant reminder to seek God wholeheartedly for His wisdom and direction. 🙂
